ABOUT THE EVERYTOWN SURVIVOR NETWORK
The Everytown Survivor Network is a nationwide community of survivors working together to end gun violence. The Survivor Network amplifies the collective power of diverse survivor stories to put a human face on our nation’s gun violence crisis. The Survivor Network connects survivors to build community, offers trauma-informed programs and trainings, and provides information and referrals to direct services. The Everytown Survivor Network, along with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, is a program of Everytown for Gun Safety. For more information, visit www.everytown.org/survivors.
THE STORY OF SELF, US AND NOW
The Story of Self, Us and Now public narrative model was developed by Marshall Ganz and the New Organizing Institute and has been successfully adapted by the Everytown Survivor Network to train people who have been personally affected by gun violence on how to effectively share their story to raise awareness and inspire others to join the gun violence prevention movement.
SHARING YOUR STORY
As a survivor, you may choose to share your story with individuals in your personal network, your elected officials, or with your state or local Moms Demand Action Chapter. Storytelling should be tailored to each audience, taking into consideration who is represented in the audience and any time limits. For example, most legislative testimony is limited to 3 minutes; edited news stories may only use a 30-second soundbite. For this reason, we recommend you keep your full story of Self, Us and Now to about 5 minutes or less and modify as needed from there. The goal is for you to connect with your audience through your personal story and leave them feeling inspired, hopeful and ready to take action.
